Most people know this tool at the "a'tlatl", or spear thrower. it is an ancient tool used across continents and millennia. Gefotwiki is the Shawnee word for spear, so that is what I call this particular device.
The "a'tlatl" as it is often called, is a very old piece of the human hunting arsenal. Evidence of this tool stretches more than 17,000 years in the world. But here in North America evidence of the spear thrower reaches about ~10,000 years in the form of hard remnants such as sone weights, points, and antler and bone hooks. This tool is the grandfather of systems like bows, but still holds up as an accurate and powerful projectile.
